I agree, Joomla has probably most retarded code base i ever seen. Even if i compare it to Magento, my opinion is - it's simple to write extension for Magento (which is like 10 times complicated according to size of code base), than for Joomla.
Anyway thanks for this article.

I've found that large PHP files can make the editor impossibly slow after upgrading it to SR2. I tried installing SR1 and had the same problem. The only solution was to re-install the first release of Helios.

I've been using Joomla for years for my own site(s) and for clients. I've tried using both Drupal and Wordpress for various projects but always end up finding a better way to do it with Joomla. There's tons of quality templates, plugins, components, and more available. The only downside I've found is that while there is a lot of options for using Joomla there is still some sifting that needs to be done once you figure out what it is you're trying to accomplish. Not all plugins/components/etc are created equal, but deep down thats the part I still enjoy. I don't have to shoehorn things together to get them to work. I can simply replace one plugin for another that does the job easier/richer than the last version and make each client's site truly unique. With some client sites still running strong on 1.5 I think that speaks volumes for the reliability of it too.

I just wanted to share how much I appreciate reading this. My dog went into this same surgery several hours ago. We got the news it was 2 disks and he has awaken from the surgery 5 hours ago. Your information has given me an idea what our next 6 months and so forth are going to be like. We have been seeing our vet every other day for an eye injury so she has been right on top of his symptoms from the beginning. Last night we went info a check up and not sure if his lack of being able to stand was due to pain meds or not. She was on the phone with a neurologist at the hospital and they got us in 3 hours away this morning for the MRI then straight into surgery. I appreciate knowing the depth and breath of work ahead of us for recovery.

I guess I'm going to have to take another look at WP again. I originally started with WP 2.8 and even learned how to build templates for it. I too liked the clean interface. My frustration came when trying to extend it, and when I did the easy upgrade to a later version would break the plugins and then it would take weeks for the developer of the plugin to fix it. On the WP site I found the searching for plugins just as frustrating. All I wanted was a simple poll!
Then I started working with Joomla.. not as simple but I found it to be a solid platform with plenty of really useful add-ons that were almost always free. The few that I do pay for add functionality that is beyond anything I found offered for WP (JCE Editor, CBSubs).
The Joomla template selections that can be purchased (for about $50) through the top vendors add fined-grained customization that make even working with committees possible.
The system natively allows author-assigned articles to be edited from the front-end by that author using a wysiwyg editor with just enough control so they don’t mess up the look of the site.
I may be inheriting a WP 3.0 site soon, so perhaps my impressions will change; until then it’s Joomla all the way for me!
