Gnome-Do, some real tips

A lot of news and feed activity around this topic. But everybody is just announcing with big letters this great new and powerful software, and forget to really look behind the hood.

No 1 : Gnome-Do Repository

In order to install the latest version you need to add these repositories for Intreprid

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

No 2 : Firefox 3 Bookmarks Plugin is not working

Don’t try to fix it. You just gone lose time. Use this “hack” instead : sudo apt-get install epiphany-browser ; yes, use another browser and save your bookmarks ; then install the epiphany bookmark plugin.

No 3 : Use the default theme

A new Docky theme is heavily advertised. This should be the task bar replacer ( dock-like bar ). DO NOT USE IT. It’s not intuitive and it’s buggy. Stick to the default theme and get the real power out of Gnome-Do

No 4 : Don’t install a lot of unnecessary plugins.

Just stick to minimum : calculator, shutdown control and remember , don’t install the music plugin. It will mess up your list.
No 5 : Clear your shortcuts.

The only way to interact with Gnome Do , is by making yourself. Delete the small icons on your toolbars and desktop and start using this powerful app.
No 6 : Use a good key shortcut

Use the Pause|Break button to open/close gnome-do.

No 7 : Auto Start

Remember to configure Gnome – Do so it’s gone autostart with each session.

… and that’s about it.
