The importance of a 10 year old domain HOAX

This is some incredible SEO joke. A lot of people still argue the existence of SEO and it’s efficiency in the first place. Yes in the begging there were some important rules : use meta-tags , stuff you text with keywords, have a good ratio when it comes to including keyword,using keywords in header tags and more science fiction for our days. Some of them maybe are still credible like : the page title that has to be a short description of the page and nothing more. But this is common sense and the html syntax should be the next big thing SE should take into consideration.
The truth is that things are evolving : Search Engines don’t longer need to have the biggest index. The big players : Google , Yahoo and Live.com in this particular order have started to take their index serious. If we compare the number of spam sites in top 10 with the result we would have seen 2 years ago the progress is fantastic. But one of the big factor is : AGE of the domain ? Be serious. Take Digg for example ; probably the biggest success in 2006. It is 2 years old. That’s right two years. What did digg do to get where it is ? Added a lot of content , and quality links both in and out. It’s no match for a 10 years old site that has just a decent number of inbound links. The big factor here people is the QUALITY of your site.
There has been a lot of recent “vibes” regarding this questions but nobody had stop for a minute to think who will get the most out of this. The domain registration companies are probably behind this HOAX. Imagine how good is for them to have people starting to register hundreds of domains for 10 years instead of the usual 1 year. More money for just a rumor ! If you would be in their place wouldn’t you do the same thing ? Pay some decent webmasters that are moderating SEO discussions forums , or just some active members of the community to spread a rumor. How hard is it ? How much is to gain ? This is a simple logic question and nothing more.
The conclusion is this HOAX shouldn’t be taken into consideration by a serious Webmaster until google or other big SE has an official press release telling the world about the importance of domain age when it comes to ranking. Just my 2 cents…
