Ember and the Cloud Painter

You may remember Ember, the dragon who loved rainbows more than gold. After his adventure with Lily, he became the guardian of colors in the Misty Mountains. But this story begins on a very gray morning.

The sky was the color of old socks. No blue, no white, just endless, boring gray. Ember sighed, his breath forming small clouds.

I miss the rainbow days, he murmured.

That is when he heard it—a soft, rhythmic sound. Swish, swish, swish. It was coming from behind the tallest thundercloud.

Ember flew closer and discovered the most unusual sight: a young cloud painter named Cirra. She stood on a floating cumulus, holding a brush made of moonbeams, painting... well, trying to paint the sky.

It is no use, Cirra said, not even surprised to see a dragon. I have been painting sunrises for three days, but the gray keeps winning.

Ember landed beside her. What if, he suggested gently, we work together? I remember every color from every rainbow I have ever seen. And you—you can paint them.

Cirra looked up, hope sparking in her eyes. Really? You would help me?

For hours, Ember described colors in detail—the exact shade of sunset orange, the particular blue of a noon sky, the pink of cherry blossoms. Cirra painted them onto the clouds, and slowly, magically, the gray began to retreat.

But the best part came at sunset. As the real sun dipped below the mountains, Ember breathed a small, warm flame—not to destroy, but to illuminate. The painted clouds caught the light and turned into the most spectacular sunset the valley had ever seen.

Cirra laughed, spinning in delight. We did it! We actually did it!

Ember smiled, his heart full. He had learned something important from his friend Lily, and now he was passing it on: Colors are brighter when you share them.

From that day on, if you ever see a particularly beautiful sky, with colors that seem almost magical, you will know why. A dragon who loves rainbows and a cloud painter who never gave up are somewhere up there, working together.

And sometimes, if you are very lucky, you might see a shape in the clouds that looks like a dragon smiling down at you.
